Lago di Como destination wedding

One of the things I love about being in this business is to meet people from all over the world who share the same passions as you do. When I met Tori on skype, an independent entrepreneur herself, she told me the story that brought her to plan a wedding over a 1000 Kilometers away from their home—from London to Lake Como—it was the go-to choice for a couple who shared a fascination for travelling. She also presented to me another idea that immediately spoke to my heart: A stationery line for the wedding, tied together with the design of the invitation, presenting some their favorite places around the world.

Over months, we exchanged e-mails and ideas, until we came up with the perfect wedding invitation design and the adaptation of each country for the table cards. I love these small details that add that extra personal touch to the wedding day and of course so thankful for the amount of trust she poured unto me as a designer.

When the wedding day arrived and we met for the first time, I couldn’t help myself but to give her a hug, it felt as if we had known each other for a long time. I was greeted by the group of her closest gals, everyone spread out throughout the suite getting ready peacefully, laughing, enjoying this moment in time. And me, well, I felt a little bit like in a movie as I am not used to hearing so much british accent around me. I felt a little bit like inside a Jane Austen scene in a book. It was charming darling (that´s me attempting a british accent in my mind).

Meanwhile downstairs Nick, the groom, greeted the guests as they arrived to the Villa Regina Teodolinda. The story tells that Italy’s Queen Teodolinda lived here from 589 to 616. And let me tell you, it is a spectacular hideaway at the edge of lake Como. The outside reflects the colors of the sun, with shades of yellow and terracotta painted walls; a complete contrast to the inside which is rather light and airy. It definitely transports you to a different time in history.

The ceremony took place at the garden, soft waves crashing on the other side of the stone wall. To the sound of the violin, the groom fixed his eyes upon his bride as she walked in. The ceremony was led by a italian marriage officiant who made sure to make everyone laugh and get the feeling of italian hospitality. It was for sure a ceremony to remember, with the italian flag waving in the wind and an occasional boat rider driving by clapping as these two exchanged their vows.

The celebration was followed by a buffet of Italian delicacies, yes all those olives and cheeses and cold meats of your culinary dreams. And of course, a cocktail bar, with some of the couple’s favourite recipes. Soon we set off for a private speed-boat ride on the lake, a precious time for the couple alone and absorbing the beautiful landscape. At the end we were surprised by the boat rider, with a speed so intense and unexpected that we almost slipped off the boat. The guests raising their glasses in the distance.

As for the rest of the day, it was a very calm and intimate celebration in the Villa. As a photographer, I think back into moments like this and I have to pinch myself that I was there. I deeply believe that genuine love deserves true, emotive and timeless pictures. I thank you again, Tori and Nick, for allowing me to be part of this special moment in your life!
